Sen. Lincoln Fillmore (R)

SB 65 (Child Neglect Amendments)

Libertas Institute supports this bill.

Current law allows police and prosecutors to punish parents who let their children walk to the store alone, or to school or the park, if they believe there is risk. This law would change the definition of neglect to ensure that cannot legally happen.

Libertas supports this parental rights legislation, as it codifies the experience many of us have as children, and steers us away from the many controversial practices unfolding around the country punishing parents who let their children have a bit more independence than others might be accustomed to.
