Chasing after federal funds, the Utah State Board of Education committed Utah to Common Core with no involvement or input from Utah parents, teachers, and others.
They also violated the law in doing so. State law requires the Board to consult with these groups in establishing and implementing new standards. Instead of doing this, the Board consulted with out-of-state groups who don't understand your children or have their best interests at heart.
Accordingly, attorneys we've had working on the case since January have now filed a lawsuit—which you can read here—objecting to the Board's action and asking a judge to order the Board to stop Common Core's implementation. Time is of the essence, as these standards will be implemented this fall.
