HB 333 (Electronic Cigarette Products… and Related Revenue Amendments)

Libertas Institute opposes this bill.

This bill would add an 86% tax onto the purchase of any electronic cigarette, nicotine inhaler, or substance these items use. Revenue would be used to fund nurses and athletic trainers in rural areas of the state.

Libertas Institute opposes this bill. While the sponsor is to be applauded for wanting to address underage youth using these products, a punitive tax that removes a disincentive for adults to abandon cigarettes is a foolish proposal. Further, government should not be grown through a "sin tax" on those trying to increase their health.
