Compulsory Education Violates Freedom | Libertas Institute Cartoon

The law in Utah notes that parents have a “fundamental liberty interest” regarding the care of their children—including their children. And yet, Utah also enforces compulsory education laws that violate that liberty.

To be consistent in its recognition of parental stewardship, the law in Utah must be amended to have education be a voluntary, freely obtained opportunity, rather than a forced obligation under threat of fines and jail time.

Education sounds really compulsory for our kids. And yes it sometimes violates their freedom of watching too much tv, or facing their computers...but I try to give my kids the best education they could possibly get and achieve.
